Down Steamboat Trail Another true gem, this article is the narrative angle of Bob’s summer on the ‘sippi. He describes it as a story with “a certain amount of romantic adventure and travel appeal” which it certainly has. There is romantic adventure in virtually every line, along with humor, enlightenment into the people of the river he encounters, and information about the logistics of navigating such an adventure. This story is beautifully written, capturing all of these elements with a lovely purity, and with a rogue salt shaker to weave an ongoing line of connection Uncle Bob felt to the river, told with such detail that you can see and feel it all, and with such inherent intrigue it makes it easy to forget it was based on his own experience. |
